Designing the Event-Day Experience Across the MCG

Greater Group works with Delaware North across a portfolio of retail and hospitality environments at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, spanning merchandise, cafés, food and beverage and frictionless retail. Each project responds to a different moment in the event-day journey, from grabbing food between play to browsing merchandise or meeting before the action begins.

The work is shaped around how people move through the stadium. Concourse visibility, customer flow, transaction speed, dwell time and changing event-day volumes inform the planning of each environment. MCG Shop is designed around high-volume merchandise trading, Paddock Café creates a place to pause on the concourse, and MCG Express introduces a faster checkout-free retail experience.

Together, the projects create a broader retail and hospitality experience across the MCG, with each format designed around its particular customer behaviour, location and role within the event-day journey.
