A Garden Pavilion Café Inside the MCG
Creating a Place to Pause on the Concourse
Paddock Café sits opposite the Australian Sports Museum on a busy MCG concourse defined by raw concrete, generous circulation and a constant flow of visitors. The café needed a stronger presence within that scale, creating an environment that could capture attention during the movement of event day and give visitors a reason to stop.
For a compact tenancy, the frontage became critical. It needed to be immediately recognisable from across the concourse, support efficient food and beverage service during busy periods and establish the café as somewhere to meet, eat and spend time within the stadium.
Hospitality That Spills Onto the Concourse
Greater Group gave Paddock Café the character of a garden pavilion, creating a warm and recognisable hospitality identity within the MCG. Green-and-white striped awnings project over the frontage, with white fluted panelling, painted brick and a circular blade sign extending its presence along the primary circulation route.
The experience continues beyond the physical tenancy. An open frontage provides clear views into the café, bar seating activates the glazing and high tables extend onto the concourse, making customers part of the café’s presence. Planting, a green feature wall and warm pendant lighting complete the environment, creating a relaxed place to gather while supporting the changing pace and volume of an MCG event day.
A New Destination Between the Action
Paddock Café transforms a compact concourse tenancy into a visible hospitality destination within the scale of the MCG. Its awnings, signage, open frontage and spill-out seating allow the café to engage visitors from a distance and create a stronger social presence along the concourse.
The project gives visitors somewhere to pause, meet and spend time between the major moments of event day, extending the role of hospitality beyond food and beverage service and making Paddock Café part of the wider MCG experience.
