Rethinking Matahari Department Through Zoning and Visual Merchandising
Greater Group works with Matahari across design and project management for its multi-category retail environments in Indonesia. The relationship began with a new visual merchandising concept at Supermall Karawaci and has extended into large-format retail, including the 13,000 square metre flagship at Lippo Mall Puri.
The work centres on how customers understand and navigate a department store spanning multiple categories and brands. Category zoning creates structure across the floor, while visual merchandising, product presentation and sightlines help customers move intuitively between departments. At Lippo Mall Puri, this also extended to a new window display concept, carrying the visual merchandising direction through to the storefront.
Across the programme, Greater Group develops these elements as a connected retail system, from the hierarchy of categories and circulation through to wall displays, tables, fixtures and concession areas. The approach gives Matahari a clearer framework for organising large, constantly changing retail environments while allowing individual categories and brands to maintain their own presence.
The team from greater group implemented an intelligent VM strategy and provided us with the visual hierarchy guidelines for further national roll-outs that are cost efficient, easy to install and allow for adaptability across all our platforms. We were impressed by the creativity and innovation greater group poured into this project, executing the brief with the utmost professionalism within a tight time frame.
