Zoning a 13,000 sqm Department Store for Matahari
Organising Every Category Under One Roof
At 13,000 square metres, Matahari Lippo Mall Puri brings the department store’s categories and concession brands together within a single flagship environment. Greater Group’s design and project management scope centred on how customers would understand and navigate a retail floor of this scale.
The planning establishes clear zones for each category, supported by circulation, sightlines and visual merchandising that signal transitions throughout the customer journey. Each concession also needed a defined presence within the wider floor, creating a structured framework for multiple brands and product categories to operate together.
Use Zoning to Make the Store Legible
Greater Group developed the store around a clear hierarchy of categories, circulation and merchandising. Zoning gives each department a recognisable place within the floor plan, while sightlines and visual merchandising help customers understand what lies ahead and move intuitively between different areas of the store.
Within each zone, the merchandising system establishes how product is presented across wall displays, tables and other fixtures. Concession brands are integrated into this wider structure, giving individual brands presence while maintaining a coherent customer journey across the full 13,000 square metres.
A Clearer Structure for Large-Format Retail
Lippo Mall Puri brings Matahari’s multi-category offer together through a clear system of zoning and visual merchandising. The completed flagship gives customers stronger visual cues as they move between categories, while creating an organised framework for the many brands and product types operating across the floor.
At 13,000 square metres, the project demonstrates how zoning and merchandising can become the organising architecture of a department store, giving a very large retail environment greater clarity, hierarchy and ease of navigation.
