Designing a Flexible Retail Experience for Yamaha Music
Greater Group refreshed Yamaha’s retail experience in Singapore, aligning the space with the brand’s “Find Your Breakthrough” direction. Flow and visibility were improved through clearer zoning, upgraded displays, and a more open counter zone. A dedicated gaming and live-streaming zone was introduced to support modern engagement and richer product demonstrations.
One Store, a Very Different Product Mix
Yamaha Music brings together products with completely different requirements within one retail environment. A grand piano needs space to be played and experienced, while smaller instruments and accessories depend on efficient merchandising and easy comparison. Customers also need to move between browsing, testing and demonstration without one activity overwhelming another.
The brief was to make that complexity easier to navigate while giving Yamaha greater flexibility in how the store could change over time. The retail environment needed clearer zoning and visibility across categories, while fixtures needed to accommodate changing ranges and seasonal merchandising without requiring the store to be continually redesigned.
Build Flexibility Into the Fixtures
Greater Group developed a modular fixture system that could be reconfigured as Yamaha’s product mix and merchandising requirements changed. Rather than designing fixed displays around a single assortment, the system gives the store greater freedom to adjust layouts and product density over time, while environmental graphics provide a consistent layer of navigation across categories that otherwise have little visual relationship to one another.
The wider customer journey was also opened up through clearer zoning and improved sightlines, including a more open counter area. A dedicated gaming and live-streaming zone introduced another way for customers to engage with Yamaha products through demonstration and digital content, extending the experience beyond conventional instrument display.
A Store Designed to Keep Changing
The completed store gives Yamaha a more flexible retail platform rather than a fixed merchandising solution. Modular fixtures allow the floor to be rearranged as products, ranges and seasons change, while clearer zoning and environmental graphics keep a diverse product offer easy to navigate.
The result is a store that can evolve without requiring a new design every time the merchandising changes. For a brand spanning products of dramatically different scales, categories and ways of being experienced, that flexibility allows the retail environment to keep pace with the range while maintaining one coherent Yamaha experience.
