01 Project Brief

A Workplace for a Growing APAC Operation

As KW-Commerce expanded internationally, its Hong Kong operation took on an increasingly important role in supply chain management, purchasing, quality control and APAC sales development. The new headquarters therefore needed to accommodate more than a growing headcount; it had to support the different activities behind the regional business.

The brief called for a 200-person workplace supporting activity-based working, collaboration and specialist functions including product testing. Just as importantly, the office needed to accommodate continued growth without requiring major disruption each time the team expanded.

02
02 Our Approach

Build Flexibility Into the Plan

Greater Group designed the workplace around a mix of settings rather than a single way of working. Hot-desking improves the efficiency of the floorplate, while collaboration hubs, breakout areas, booths, informal seating and a 14+ person boardroom give teams different environments for focused work, meetings and collaboration.

The planning was developed with expansion in mind, allowing additional capacity to be introduced with minimal disruption as the workforce grows. A restrained material palette of timber, planting, light finishes and softer furnishings balances the operational requirements of a regional headquarters with a warmer, more comfortable employee experience. Greater Group carried the project through design and build, completing the design programme in six weeks and construction in eight.

03 Project Outcome

Built for the Business to Keep Growing

The completed headquarters brings 200 people, activity-based working, collaboration and specialist operational functions together within one 1,300 sqm workplace.

More importantly, the office was not designed only around KW-Commerce’s requirements at opening. Future growth was built into the planning from the outset, allowing the workplace to expand with minimal disruption as the Hong Kong operation evolves.

For a business whose Hong Kong team supports its wider Asia Pacific growth, the result is a headquarters designed to do the same: support the operation it has today while leaving room for the business it is becoming.
