Designing a People-First Workplace for Green Court Capital Management
Greater Group was appointed by BGIS to deliver workplace design consultancy for Green Court Capital Management’s 370 sqm Hong Kong office. From concept design and space planning through 3D visualisation and tender documentation, the workplace was designed to balance focused individual work with collaboration and connection within a compact floorplate.
Balancing Focus and Collaboration
For an asset management business, focused work is fundamental, but a workplace designed entirely around concentration can quickly become disconnected. Green Court Capital Management needed its 370 sqm Hong Kong office to support both: providing employees with an environment for focused individual work while creating opportunities for meetings, collaboration and informal interaction within the same footprint. The challenge was to achieve that balance efficiently, while integrating Green Court’s selected Steelcase furniture system into a cohesive workplace rather than allowing the furniture specification to dictate the experience.
Plan Around How People Work
Greater Group developed the workplace from the plan outward, using zoning and circulation to separate different modes of work without unnecessarily dividing the floor.
The Steelcase system provided a consistent foundation for the workplace, while planning, materiality and detailing gave each setting its purpose and character. Rather than treating furniture as something added after the architecture, the two were resolved together to make the most of the available 370 sqm. With construction delivered by others, detailed documentation became particularly important, carrying the design intent from concept through tender and into implementation.
More From a Compact Floorplate
The completed design gives Green Court a workplace where focus and collaboration can coexist without competing for space. Individual work settings provide the structure required for concentrated work, while collaborative and shared environments give teams places to connect away from their desks.
By planning the workplace around behaviour rather than simply fitting furniture into a floorplate, Greater Group turned a compact 370 sqm office into a more flexible, people-focused environment suited to the way the business works.
