A Workplace Designed Around How People Work
Greater Group designed and built Aurex Group’s Hong Kong workplace, creating an agile environment around the different ways its people work throughout the day. Rather than starting with desks and meeting rooms, the design began by understanding workplace behaviour, using those insights to create a more flexible, collaborative and people-focused environment.
Designing for Different Ways of Working
Aurex needed a workplace that could support a diverse team moving between focused work, calls, collaboration, meetings and informal interaction throughout the day. The brief was not simply to provide more space, but to make the space work harder. Different tasks required different levels of privacy, interaction and flexibility, while the workplace itself needed to reflect Aurex’s identity and create a strong experience for employees, clients and prospective talent.
From Workplace Behaviour to Workplace Design
Greater Group began by studying Aurex’s existing workplace and how its people actually used it. Those behaviours informed the planning of the new office, replacing a one-size-fits-all approach with a range of settings designed around specific tasks.
Focus rooms and call booths provide privacy for individual work; meeting rooms accommodate different group sizes; while touchdown desks, whiteboard walls, breakout areas and informal settings support more spontaneous collaboration. Instead of expecting every activity to happen at a workstation, the workplace gives people the choice to move to the environment that best supports what they are doing.
Aurex’s orange and black identity is integrated throughout the space, balanced with timber, natural light and a more restrained material palette to create an environment that feels distinctly Aurex without becoming overly corporate.
A Workplace for People and Performance
The completed workplace gives Aurex’s team greater choice in how and where they work. Focus, calls, collaboration, meetings and social interaction each have a place within the same floorplate, allowing the office to respond to different tasks rather than forcing every task into the same environment.
That flexibility supports more than day-to-day productivity. For a people-led business, the workplace is also part of how Aurex communicates its culture to clients, employees and prospective talent.
The result is an office designed around behaviour rather than convention, giving people the right environment for the task while creating a workplace that supports both performance and culture.
We couldn’t be happier with the outcome of our new refurbished office. From the initial concept design through to delivery, Greater Group have been hands on and understanding of our needs every step of the way. The team’s strategy for delivering the best use of space along with a modern design answered every part of our brief. The new areas for collaboration, informal and formal meetings and events have exceeded our expectations and created new opportunities for the ways our team works. The use of technology throughout the office has allowed us to better connect with our international colleagues, increase productivity and become a more interactive workplace.
