01 Project Brief

Rethinking Domestic Airport Retail

Heinemann’s Sydney T2 project called for a new travel retail experience within one of Australia’s busiest domestic terminals. The store brings multiple categories together for travellers moving at different speeds and with different amounts of time before their flight, requiring an environment that could capture attention from the concourse and remain intuitive once inside.

Greater Group was engaged to develop the concept and detailed design, creating a destination with a strong architectural identity while responding to the practical demands of high customer volumes, durability and continuous airport operations.

02
02 Our Approach

Shape the Experience Through Sculptural Design

Greater Group developed the store around flowing architectural forms, experiential lighting and sculptural installations that guide movement and create moments of discovery across the retail floor. Curved forms soften the environment and establish a distinctive visual language, with lighting integrated into the architecture to strengthen the store’s presence from the terminal.

Corian became central to realising the concept, with its thermoforming capabilities enabling the seamless curves and sculptural retail elements integral to the design. Greater Group carried the concept through detailed documentation and remained the design point of contact during construction, working with the delivery team to clarify details, coordinate services and ensure the approved design intent was accurately translated into the completed environment.

An Award-Winning Flagship for Heinemann

Sydney T2 creates a distinctive retail destination within the terminal, bringing multiple travel retail categories together through a cohesive architectural experience. Sculptural forms, integrated lighting and considered customer touchpoints give the store a recognisable presence while supporting the pace and operational requirements of airport retail.

The project was named Overall Commercial Winner at the 2024 Corian® Design Awards, recognising its integration of form, function, craftsmanship and material innovation.
