Designing for Work, Connection and Comfort
Designing for Work, Connection and Comfort
Following Greater Group’s work with The Great Room in Hong Kong, the Sydney project expanded the relationship into full design and build. The brief was to transform an existing commercial fitout into a premium co-working environment that reflected The Great Room’s hospitality-led approach to workplace.
The challenge was to move beyond a conventional serviced office model. Private offices, shared workspaces, meeting rooms and lounges all needed to feel part of one cohesive member experience, with comfort, atmosphere and social connection treated as seriously as workplace functionality.
Designing Around the Member Experience
Greater Group planned the space around the way members move between focused work, meetings, informal collaboration and social interaction throughout the day. Shared lounges and communal areas were given the same level of importance as more traditional work settings, helping the workplace feel less corporate and more considered.
Materiality, lighting, furniture and detailing were used to create a warmer, more layered environment, while the existing fitout was selectively retained and reworked where it supported the new direction. Holding both design and build allowed those decisions to be carried consistently from concept through to delivery.
A More Hospitality-Led Way to Work
The completed 1,400 sqm Sydney location brings together work, meeting and social spaces within a more relaxed and hospitality-driven environment. Rather than feeling like a collection of offices, the workplace is designed as a continuous member experience, with a stronger emphasis on comfort, community and quality of space.
The project also marked an evolution in Greater Group’s relationship with The Great Room, moving from procurement and build in Hong Kong to full design and delivery in Sydney, and translating the brand’s hospitality mindset into a local workplace context.
