Gourmet Airport Café Design in Canberra

Greater Group designed City Hill Coffee at Canberra Airport as a light, fresh café concept that reflects local architecture and landscape. A gourmet format was planned with a full working kitchen and a separate coffee counter, aligned with tenancy guidelines. A sustainability-led approach prioritised locally sourced materials.

01 Project Brief

Light, Local, Sustainable

City Hill Coffee required a gourmet café for Canberra Airport with a full kitchen and a separate coffee counter. The interior needed to feel light and fresh, encouraging passengers to linger pre-flight while aligning with the airport’s visual guidelines and nearby tenancies. Sustainability was a core goal, with local sourcing prioritised to support ethical, future-proof operations across the fit-out.

02 Our Approach

Thoughtfully-designed Environment

Local architecture was referenced to shape signature features, including a feature light inspired by Parliament House and a white lattice canopy that defined the tenancy edge. A biophilic palette was set from Canberra farmland tones, pairing oak timber with moss green and warm neutrals. The kitchen was positioned around the existing services shaft, and the cookline was glazed to maximise daylight and operational efficiency.

03 Project Outcome

Fresh and Efficient Airport Venue

The finished café delivers a bright, open environment that feels distinctly Canberra while operating smoothly in an airport setting. Separate coffee and kitchen zones support fast service and varied dwell times, while biophilic cues and a calm palette keep the space welcoming. Local sourcing and a controlled materials palette strengthen the sustainability intent, creating a durable airport café experience that sits comfortably within the terminal’s wider design language.
