Canggu: A National Format That Belongs in Bali
Bringing a National Format to Bali
By 2024, CIMB Niaga had established a contemporary branch language across its evolving network. Bringing that format to Bali required a more locally responsive approach, balancing a consistent national banking experience with the island’s distinct architectural and cultural character.
The challenge was to preserve CIMB Niaga’s digital experience, operational planning and brand identity while allowing the branch to feel naturally connected to its setting rather than simply replicating a format developed elsewhere.
Keep the System, Localise the Expression
Greater Group separated what needed to remain consistent from what could respond to place. Inside, service, self-service, consultation and digital touchpoints follow the established planning principles and recognisable red-and-white identity of the wider network.
The local expression is carried through the architecture. A perforated façade screen draws on the geometry of Balinese pattern-making while providing shade and depth, with more subtle references continuing through the interior. The result brings local character into the branch without changing the system behind how it operates.
National Consistency, Local Relevance
The completed branch demonstrates that CIMB Niaga’s national format can retain its identity while responding meaningfully to place. The banking experience remains consistent with the wider network, while the architecture gives the branch a character that belongs specifically to Bali.
It establishes a simple principle for a network spanning Indonesia: keep the experience consistent, while allowing the expression to respond to its location.
