A Repeatable Retail System for the Avis and Budget Network
One Standard Across Different Sites
Avis Budget Group’s network spans airport counters, city branches, regional locations and franchisee-operated stores across Australia and New Zealand. Each comes with different footprints, existing conditions and operational requirements, making a single fixed store design impractical.
The brief was to make the retail standard repeatable without making every location identical. ABG needed a system that could establish consistency across the network while remaining flexible enough to suit different sites and levels of refurbishment, giving corporate teams and franchisees a clearer way to upgrade their stores without starting from scratch each time.
Standardise What Can Be Repeated
Greater Group developed a kit of repeatable retail components that can be configured around each location. Standard service pods, Avis Preferred and Budget Fastbreak counters, Key Wizard units and magnetic panel walls create an established foundation for each refurbishment, while layouts and supporting elements can be adapted to the individual tenancy.
The system continues through manufacture and installation. Fixtures are prototyped, manufactured and quality checked at Greater Group’s Australian manufacturing facility, The Lab, before being shipped to site. By connecting design, R&D, manufacture, logistics and installation within the same delivery model, the team can control both the consistency of the components and how they are ultimately installed.
A Rollout Built to Scale
Greater Group has now delivered more than 30 Avis and Budget locations across Australia and New Zealand, from Adelaide, Auckland and Melbourne airports to city, regional and franchisee locations. The same system has also supported franchisee refurbishments at Avis Arundel and Hobart Airport and Budget Clayton and Lilydale, with scopes ranging from individual service pods and panel walls through to complete concept redesigns and fitouts.
The result is an established rollout model that can flex with the size of the project. A franchisee can replace a counter or panel wall using the same component system applied across the wider network, while a larger location can draw on the full design, manufacture and fitout capability. That gives ABG a consistent retail standard without requiring every store to follow the same footprint or scope, and a repeatable process for continuing to upgrade the network.
