Bringing The Outside In
Set in the largest and busiest airport in New Zealand, Wondertree Auckland aspires to “help every traveller start their journey feeling good”. Based on the Wondertree design concept by Harrison, greater group ensured the interpretation reflected a sense of outdoors with engaging elements to create a unique dining experience with an atmosphere of being in a lush rainforest. In particular, the open kitchen is the hero of the layout, allowing a theatre-like visual dining experience and grand sightlines out to the airstrip.
Zoning for Multiple Seating Layout
A clear layout was developed to separate dining modes, with family benches, bar and mid-height counters, and runway-facing booths planned for different traveller needs. Natural textures and open sightlines were used to keep the venue light and restorative. Architectural elements were designed to conceal structure and building services, including ceiling panels and tree-arch forms, while compliance was maintained and operational flow was protected in the terminal setting.
Dining before Departure
The finished site delivers a light, nature-led environment that feels like a pause before departure, while keeping movement clear during busy periods. Seating variety supports groups, solo diners, and business travellers, with power integrated where required. Signature architectural forms conceal essential building services without breaking the design story. The result is a biophilic restaurant interior that balances comfort, compliance, and performance for airport trade.
